Abstract

Among all the injuries involving the periodontal ligament, avulsions are considered the most complex ones in terms of treatment. The prognosis regarding the reimplantation of avulsed teeth is much more influenced by the previous conditions they had been submitted to. Several factors are considered to be favorable to the periodontal ligament repair and pulp recovery and one can name the splint. In this literature review, different types of tooth splints will be described, including indications for type and time of immobilization as well as how immobilization can influence the periodontal ligament and pulpal repair.
