Trauma with a toothbrush: A case report

Paulo Sérgio da Silva Santos

Abstract

When well executed, toothbrushing is one of the most efficient methods of preventing caries and periodontal diseases. When there is no supervision, it can result in serious and inadvertent trauma of the oral cavity’s soft tissues. This is particularly true in an infant population where lack of coordination increases the risk of oral cavity injury. This case report describes the severe case of trauma to soft tissues of the mouth during toothbrushing where the brush penetrated the soft tissues and had to be surgically removed showing the clinical features, radiographic images and treatment applied.
