Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess the pH extra-radicular changes following in vitro bleaching of pulpless teeth after the placement of three different cervical barriers. Maxillary canine were cleaned, shaped and filled, and then had 2mm of the filling material removed, divided into three experimental groups. Artificial defects were made along the cemento-enamel junction and the cervical barriers were made with zinc phosphate, zinc oxide without eugenol and glass ionomer cements. The data obtained were submitted to statistics analysis, and the results indicated significant difference among the groups (p < 0.05), once the more constant and lower pH values obtained with the oxide without eugenol cement, while the other two cements allowed a significant change in pH.
