Malocclusion impact on primary and permanent dentition in the quality of life of children and adolescents: review of literature
Abstract
A literature review was conducted about malocclusion in different dentitions and its impact on quality of life in children and adolescents was conducted. The survey was conducted in PUBMED, LILACS and SciELO, using the keywords malocclusion and quality of life. Oito articles were selected about malocclusion in the deciduous dentition and 17 in mixed and / or permanent dentition. Among those who evaluated the deciduous dentition, only one article found negative impact in the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). As for articles that assessed the joint and / or permanent dentition, the majority found an association between malocclusion and worse OHRQoL. It is concluded that malocclusion only has a negative impact in the OHRQoL when present in mixed dentition and / or permanent, affecting the self-esteem of individuals who have this disorder.
