Oral candidiasis in patients admitted to ICU

Abstract

Oral candidiasis may develop as a consequence of poor hygiene. It is frequently observed in patients admitted to intensive care units (ICU). Oral candidiasis may disseminate and complicate patient`s condition, increasing the time of hospitalization and mortality rates. Routine oral examination of patients in the ICU will detect early oral candidiasis, favoring treatment and prognosis.
