Influence of different surface treatments on bond strength between Y-TZP and resin cements

Abstract

The purpose of this literature review was to evaluate the influence of surface treatments on the bond strength between zirconia and resin cement. According to the literature, it was concluded, within the limitations of the study, that silica coating and airborne-particle abrasion are currently the most investigated two methods, showing good results especially if associated with a chemical bonding agent. It’s important to remember that the airborne-particle abrasion was associated with evidence of fracture. Although few reports, selective infiltration etching seems to be the most promising treatment, gaining superior to other methods and without compromising the structure of the ceramic results.
