Dental implant with bioactive surface
Abstract
Although manufacturers of dental implants use the
same titanium alloys, there is a difference in performance
among commercial implants. This is due to the manufacturer procedures, mainly in the implant surface treatment. This work compares the roughness, wettability and removal torque from rabbit tibias and surface morphology of Ti dental implants as machined, acid-etched, treated with fluoride and anodized. The results showed that: i) the surface treatment increases the removal torque, ii) there is no statistical difference in the surface roughness and wettability among treated implants, iii) after anodizing treatment hydrophilic property increases and iv) after surface treatment the oxides on the implants surface show different chemical compositions and crystal structures.
