Use of passive ultrasonic irrigation as an enhancement measure in disinfection of the root canal system - literature review

Abstract


Objective: the objective of this study was to conduct a literature review in order to discuss and clarify the effectiveness of Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation (PUI), the disinfection of the root canal system (SCR). Materials and Methods: we selected articles between 2010 and 2016 through the databases PubMed, MEDLINE and LILACS, that were published in English and Spanish. Results and Conclusion: PUI is effective in cleaning and disinfection of the SCR, but it is necessary to establish a universal protocol for using the technique.
