Efficacy of ultrasound in cast post and core removal
Abstract
This study aimed at comparing the efficacy of 3 ultrasonic vibration devices in cast post-and-cores removal. Forty-five upper central human incisors received endodontic therapy and cast post-and-cores (NiCr) fixed with zinc-phosphate cement. The specimens were divided into 3 groups (n=15), according to the ultrasonic device (G1 = Enac OE3; G2 = JET Sonic Total; G3 = Profi III Bios) and the time of removal
(s) was measured. Tukey‘s test (5%) revealed that G3 (797s) > G1 (67.73s) = G2 (151.60s). In G3, only 3 post-and-cores were removed. It can be concluded that G1 and G2 were similarly well succeed in cast post-and-cores removal.
