Peer Review Process
Manuscripts submitted to the Brazilian Journal of Dentistry that attend the Editorial Policy and are in accordance with the “Instructions to Authors” will be evaluated in the scientific merit of the contribution.
As part of the evaluation process, manuscripts approved in this phase will be submitted to analysis by a plagiarism software (iThenticate). In case of a high similarity rate, the article will be rejected. Otherwise, the software outcome will be evaluated by the BJD editors for a final decision.
After approval in this phase, the manuscripts will be forwarded to ad hoc reviewers assigned by the Editors. Each manuscript will be sent to two ad hoc reviewers with recognized expertise in the area. In case of a disagreement, the manuscripts are sent to a third ad hoc reviewer. The review process lasts 60 days on the average.
The peer review process uses a blind review system, which is a procedure that ensures secrecy concerning the identity of both the authors and the reviewers. The authors’ name is kept anonymous during the review process so that the evaluation of manuscripts is not influenced or biased in any way. In the same way, the authors are not aware of the reviewers to which their manuscripts are assigned.
There are three possibilities of results from the reviewers: a) full acceptance; b) acceptance with revision; c) full refusal. In any of these cases, the corresponding author will be communicated.
The final decision about publishing or not a manuscript relies always on the Editors, who can submit the text to a final revision to make necessary grammatical and formatting adjustments.
Upon detecting wording problems, the manuscript will be returned to the corresponding author for modification. A revised version of the manuscript with modifications must be re-submitted within the established deadline. Failure to return the revised manuscript within the established time limit might implicate rejection.
Manuscripts that not in accordance with the Instructions for Authors and are considered inadequate or not complying with the journal’s standards will be immediately rejected and returned to authors.
