Roughness and wettability of titanium for treated dental implant surface

Murilo Pereira Coutinho, Carlos Nelson Elias

Abstract

For the analysis of dental implant biocompatibility and osseointegration, it is important to know the titanium superficial free energy, roughness and chemical composition. These parameters change the attraction, repulsion and interactions that occur among the surface of the biomaterial and cells. The most used procedure to get information of the superficial free energy of solids is by the measurement of the contact angle. The aim of the present work is to measure the contact angle and roughness of titanium samples which were polished, acid etched, anodized and treated with fluorite. The results showed that the anodized sample present the highest wettability.
