The importance of the dentist in the early diagnosis of Nevoid Basal Cell Carcinoma Syndrome: report of a case
Abstract
The Nevoid Basal Cell Carcinoma Syndrome (NBCCS) is an inherited, autossomal dominant condition with complete penetrance and variable expressivity. It is characterized by skeletal, cutaneous and dental abnormalities, and it can also affect the Central nervous system and ocular structures. The development of multiple basal cell carcinoma in early age, and the presence of the odontogenic keratocyst are the most common clinical findings. The target of this paper was to show the importance of the surgeon in the early diagnosis of the NBCCS, and report a clinical case of a 9-year-old bearer of this condition.
