Assessment of the plaque and gingival indices of children with neoplasy submitted to antineoplastic treatment
Abstract
The antineoplastic therapy may cause multiple buccal manifestations, including periodontal. The target of this research is to verify the level of periodontal problems in children submitted to antineoplastic treatment. 32 children, with ages between 3 to 15 years old, were examined, girls and boys, all submitted to treatment in Aldenora Belo Hospital, main reference center in oncologic therapy in Maranhão state. It was clinically evaluated the presence of oral lesions, rate of bacterial and gengival plaque. Gengivitis was the most prevalent oral manifestation. The rate of prevailing plaque was level 1 (not visible plaque). The gingival rate was level 2, being a moderate gingival
inflammation. It was concluded that periodontal clinical
conditions in children submitted to antineoplastic treatment
evolved unfavourably.
