Effects of daily consumption of probiotic on the cariogenic microbiota
Abstract
Probiotics have been defined as alive microorganisms that can bring benefits to the host improving their intestinal balance when administered in the determined amount.
Recent studies have been suggested that probiotics could be an auxiliary method to control caries disease because they can decrease salivary levels of S. mutans. Many bacterias, including the gender Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium have probiotic properties. Probiotics can be administered many ways but yogurts are the most common one. More studies are needed to confirm its actual benefits in the oral cavity, allowing dentists to indicate its use safely.
