Association of self-perception of oral health with clinical oral parameters

Abstract

A cross-sectional study of 229 public servants froA cross-sectional study of 229 public servants from the national university was made. The aim was performed to correlate the clinical status evaluated by the DMFT and the use and need for prostheses and self-perceived of oral health. Self-perceived oral health was significantly associated with clinical treatment need (p = 0,001), self-assessment of chewing (p = 0,001), appearance (p = 0,001) and speech (p = 0,001). It also showed a significant influence on the relationships (p = 0,001) and pain sensitivity (p = 0,018). It was concluded that it is recommended that the self-perception is considered simultaneously the condition in the definition of actions for services and priority groups for oral health care.
