Abstract

The aim of this work was to evaluate longitudinal
studies about the treatment of periapical abscess without
fistula, using a systematic review. MEDLINE, EMBASE
and CENTRAL search strategies were developed
to identify articles using the following uniterms:
Endodontic(s) and Alveolar Abscess, Endodontic(s) and
Acute Apical Periodontitis, Endodontic(s) and Periapical
Abscess, Endodontic(s) and Dento-Alveolar Abscess,
Endodontic(s) and Acute Abscess, Endodontic(s) and
Acute Periapical Abscess The search included articles
from Medline from 1952 to August 29 of 2007. From 543
studies, only 1 article satisfied the inclusion criteria.
Considering the estimate of clinical success, it is important
to establish the control of microorganisms by root
canal preparation, the sanitization process, purulent
drainage, intracanal and systemic medication.

Keywords

abscesso periapical; infecção endodôntica; periodontite apical; dor odontogênica; revisão sistemática.
