Virtual planning in Orthognathic Surgery: a shift of paradigm

Abstract

Technological advances and detailed studies of images has allowed the use of virtual planning in orthognathic surgery. Computed tomography with three-dimensional reconstruction and scanner casts have brought a significant change in the treatment plan and in surgical models: leave behind the traditional method and introduce the virtual era in orthognathic surgery. The objective of this paper is to present the benefits of virtual planning in orthognathic surgery, as well as presenting his advances in literature.
